Amazing show

I WOULD just like to say a big thank you to The Floral Pavilion New Brighton for a fantastic afternoon had by all on Saturday last.

They staged an amazing free event ‘Jazz on a Summer’s Day’ for all jazz fans to attend in the Blue Lounge from noon till 6pm and what an afternoon it was for all to remember.

It featured the cream of local jazz including The Keith Singleton Trio, Penny Lane Band, Floral All Stars, pianist Alan Topping, and distinguished New York sax veteran Frank Griffith and Dave Roberts on tenor sax and clarinet.

I must congratulate Mike Hughes, local jazz drummer, who accompanied most of the acts – his solo with Dave Roberts on the classic Dave Brubeck number Take Five was just amazing!

Other great jazz standards featured during the afternoon included The Girl from Ipanema in tribute to the late Astrud Gilberto, Days of Wine and Roses, Watermelon Man and One Note Samba, to name but a few.

It was just like a night out at the famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.

To hear all this great jazz music being played live was such a thrill for all who attended. I did comment the late great legend Tony Bennett would have approved!

To keep the party going the Floral Cafe and Bar served up plenty of hot/ cold drinks all afternoon and a fab barbecue serving up delicious burgers and hot dogs as well!

Thanks to all involved with this event – hopefully more to come please!
