A CHARITY screening of Prince's iconic film Purple Rain will take place at the Odeon in Liverpool One later this week.

The film, which prompted one of the late music legend's most famous ballads, Purple Rain, will be shown on Thursday, May 5.

All profits will be donated to mental health charity, Mind.

Made in 1984, the ground-breaking film features Prince as 'The Kid', a talented but troubled frontman of his Minneapolis-based band The Revolution.

He must contend with a rival singer, a burgeoning romance, and his own dissatisfied band, as his star begins to rise.

Thursday's screening will be a chance for fans to celebrate the life and work of Prince, who died last month.

Andy Edge, commercial director at Odeon, said: "Prince has had a huge influence on popular culture all around the world, and with Purple Rain guests will see his first break on the big screen while being transported to the 1980s.

"Through working with our charity partner Mind on these screenings, guests will be celebrating the work of one of the most innovative musicians of our age, whilst simultaneously supporting a worthy cause."
