GLOBAL coffee chain Costa has created six jobs with the opening of its first store in the Pyramids Shopping Centre in Birkenhead.
The British-owned company opened its doors today and will celebrate with a family fun day this Saturday.
Manager Sam Heustice said: "Costa has had a branch inside the Waterstones book store just outside the centre and I was its manager for the past year after joining the company back in 2006.
"In addition to the concessionary branch, Costa has now decided it's time to have a stand-alone presence actually within the Pyramids.
"We were always getting people coming into the Waterstones Costa with their CVs looking for work but as it wasn't very big we could only take on a limited number of people.
"It's therefore been fantastic to be able to offer jobs to six new people all at once to work at the new branch, which is much larger."
Derek Millar, commercial director for Pyramids Shopping Centre, said: "Costa is a terrific addition to the centre and the company is joining us at a very exciting time.
"We are in the middle of a huge roll out of a £1m investment package we have put together with the aim of modernising and improving the shopping centre and attracting new businesses.
"Costa is the latest big name to join us, following on from H&M, Trespass and our Liverpool Football Club store."
