AN EIGHTEEN-year-old was arrested for assaulting a woman at the mayor’s ball in Wirral.

Officers from Merseyside Police were called to the Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa, in Thornton Hough – where the mayor and mayoress of Wirral were holding their ball in aid of the mayor’s special charity appeal - at around 2am on Saturday.

Patrols spoke to a 23-year-old woman who worked at the premises and is believed to have suffered minor concussion, although she did not have any visible injuries.

An 18-year-old man from Prenton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.

He was taken to a police station on Merseyside for questioning and subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Wirral Council said they are aware of the incident but would not be commenting.

The ball had been organised to raise money for a number of charities, including Wirral Foodbank, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Stick ‘n’ Step.

An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
