A FAMILY of four was rescued by lifeboatmen after being cut off by rising tides on West Kirby beach.
Two men and two young girls were rescued by New Brighton lifeboat while making their way back from Middle Eye at around 11.30am on Sunday.
One man, believed to be the children’s dad, went back to shore with his dog while the hovercraft went out to pick up the rest.
By the time they had been brought back to safety at West Kirby Lifeboast station the sandbank they were rescued from was completely covered by the water.
A spokesman for the Liverpool Coastguard said: "Some people were trapped on Little Eye and tried to make their way back.
"They were rescued, cold and wet, but all safe.”
