Machetes and a firearm were seized by police after an incident in Birkenhead last night.
Four people were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and an offensive weapon at an address in Birkenhead.
Officers were called to Beryl Road, Noctorum, at 7.20pm following reports that a woman was being threatened by a gang of three or four people, believed to be armed with a gun and machetes.
They threatened the woman and left, saying they would return.
An hour later, armed response officers went to an address on Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead.
Two men aged 20 and 21 and a female, aged 17, all from Birkenhead, were arrested outside the property.
A cordon was set up and the road closed while police negotiated with a third male, aged 18, who was in the building.
He later came out and was arrested.
The four have been taken to police stations across Merseyside to be interviewed.
