TWO men accused of violence in a Birkenhead night spot have admitted affray.

Carl Peter Mello and Anthony Richard Evans had been due to stand trial on Monday, both facing three charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent on April 5 last year.

But after they pleaded guilty to affray Liverpool Crown Court heard that the more serious wounding allegations are to be dropped.

The case follows an early morning incident at the Cool Room in Conway Street which left one man with a fractured eye socket and broken jaw, another with a fractured jaw and the third suffered cuts to his eye and mouth.

27-year-old Mello, of Woodchurch Road, Birkenhead, who has a previous conviction for manslaughter involving the negligent shooting of a friend, and Evans, 29, of Ferny Brown Road, Woodchurch, were further remanded on bail to await sentence on April 30.
