A WIRRAL mum has hit out after her two-year-old daughter choked on a McDonald’s Chicken McNugget which had a bone in it.

Jenny Courts was terrified when daughter Lillie-Rose swallowed one of the nuggets, bought from restaurant in Birkenhead town centre.

McDonald’s have insisted their McNuggets are made using 100% chicken breast meat.

The 25-year-old from Birkenhead said: “We were sharing the McNuggets with my brother and my baby put the whole nugget in her mouth. She started to choke.

"I had to put my finger down her throat and fish the nugget out. To my surprise it was this large bone that she was choking on.”

Jenny complained and was told to take the bone and nugget to the store, which she did.

“The store manager took them both and told me it would be investigated,” explained Jenny.

“Back at home with my daughter, she was reluctant to eat and drink again for the next couple of hours.”

This week, Jenny received a letter from McDonald’s and two £5 meal vouchers.

“I will not use them as I refuse to go here again with my children,” said Jenny.

“I feel as though the outcome of my daughter choking could have been very different and McDonald’s are trying to pass it off as a little mistake. I am not happy with the outcome of the whole situation.”

A spokesman for McDonald’s said: “Our Chicken McNuggets are made using 100% chicken breast meat and our suppliers go to great lengths to remove bones. Food safety and quality are exceptionally important to us and we have quality control checks in place, at every stage in our supply chain.

“Unfortunately some bone can remain undetected, on rare occasions, despite going through a thorough process. We’re sorry that this appears to be the case in this instance.

“Our customer services team have been in contact with Ms Courts to discuss this matter.”
