Tranmere take on Shrewsbury Town at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon in the last pre-season friendly before the campaign begins for a return to the football league.

Manager Gary Brabin was pleased with the performance his side put in to beat Everton under-21s midweek and he'll be looking for the same again when they face the Shrews.

Defender Martin Riley and striker James Norwood were both given their first taste of match action in Tranmere's line-up on Wednesday night and they'll be looking for more minutes under their belts ahead of the season opener against Woking next week.

The opposition are familiar foes. Not only have we faced each other regularly in the recent past, but there will be plenty of recognisable faces in the Shrews team and dugout.

Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon enjoyed three spells as a player at Prenton Park and assisting him are Michael Jackson, Danny Coyne and Simon Haworth, all of whom wore the white shirt of Rovers as well.

On the pitch, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Junior Brown are both ex-Tranmere players who will be in Shrewsbury squad for the game.

But Mellon will be without injured quartet Dom Smith, Mark Halstead, Nathaniel Knight-Percival and James Wesolowski for the trip.
