AN elderly couple were left trapped for more than two hours after flooding took hold of their home in Greasby.

Eloise Paganini told the Globe she had gone to check on nan Margaret and granddad Bryan – who are both 82 – after Wednesday morning's torrential rain and found the ground floor of their Greasby Road home underneath 2ft of water.

“They are both quite immobile, my granddad can hardly walk any my nan can get herself about but that’s it – they were stuck in the house for at least two hours before the emergency services got to them – they had to carry them out,” said Eloise.

Bryan and Margaret, who have lived in the house for close to 60 years, have been forced to pay for their own temporary accommodation at the nearby Premiere Inn, where they will stay until Saturday.

Eloise added: “We’re going to try and find them some accommodation over the next few days but it could take up to six months for the house to be redone – it’s ruined.

“You can just about walk in it. All six rooms on the ground floor are flooded up to 2ft. The floor is all up and the carpet has come up.

“I went to check on them at around 9.45am and that’s when the flooded had started. They were rescued at 1pm.

“We called the emergency services right away and they said we would be put on  waiting list. I told them my nan and granddad couldn’t stay in the house for much longer – we didn’t know if the electrics were ok.”

A private ambulance was called to rescue Margaret and Bryan who were thankfully unhurt in the incident.

While the area has flooded before, Eloise said it has never been so bad.

She added: “I can’t thank the emergency services enough.”
