HOMES could be built on the site of a former Hoylake church if plans are approved.
Pre-application drawings to demolish the Presbyterian Church in Alderley Road and to redevelop the site were revealed during a public meeting in the town.
On the table are plans to build six town houses, four on Alderley Road and two to the rear with access off Lake Place, were revealed during a pre-application meeting last week.
The developer will now submit a formal planning application to the council.
The aim is to reclaim as much material and architectural features as possible.
Falling congregation numbers were given as the reason for the church’s closure and its last service took place on February 28. The building was auctioned off on March 31, with a guide price of £250,000.
Marketed by Venmore Auctions, the property was said to provide: “a substantial amount of accommodation...and most probably residential conversion or redevelopment subject to relevant planning permissions”.
Jackie Hall, a well-known Hoylake campaigner awarded the MBE in 2011 New Year’s Honours, described the church’s closure as a sad day for the town.
She said at the time “Unfortunately it’s the lack of congregation, it’s a sign of the times.”
