THE Christmas lights will be switched on in Wallasey Village this week.

It will be part of an afternoon of family fun taking place from 3.30pm-8pm on Thursday.

There will be live entertainment, seasonal stalls and Santa’s grotto

The funding for new Christmas lights for the Village has come from the Council’s Wallasey Constituency Committee.

The event is organised and funded by the Wallasey Village People, a group of people who run or own businesses or work in the village and organise events to support its growth.

Cllr Rob Gregson, chair of Wallasey constituency committee, said: “This will be a fantastic event to kick start Christmas and will help create a festive, community atmosphere in Wallasey Village for the whole family to come along and enjoy.”

The event will take place along Wallasey Village, from Sheridan’s pub to Grove Road.

Local shops will be staying open until 8pm and more than 60 independent stalls will set up in the open air.

Katie Smith, chair of Wallasey Village People, said: “We want to wish everyone in our community a very Merry Christmas, and have put on this event for local traders to come together and help everyone get into the festive spirit.

"We would like to thank the Council and Wallasey Constituency Committee for supporting our event, and helping to bring Christmas to our community.”

There will be limited car parking facilities at the Lighthouse pub and Sheridan’s pub, at Grove Road Station and at St Marys College after 4pm.
