THE Macmillan Cancer Support team are visiting Wirral as part of Dying Matters Awareness week.

The team of cancer information specialists will be stopping in Birkenhead on Wednesday May 11.

The mobile service will give people the chance to learn about end of life issues.

Lucy Rogers on board the mobile unit said: “Receiving a terminal diagnosis of cancer is a very emotionally difficult thing to deal with, for carers and loved ones as well as the patient.

“During what can be a confusing and distressing time, we want to make sure you have all the information and support you need.”

“If you have questions you want answered or if you just want to talk, come and see us – no appointment is needed and anyone is welcome.”

“We’re also here for anyone else affected by cancer, no matter what your worry on concern.”

“We can provide information on a range of issues including different treatments, financial advice, exercise, getting back to work, or what local services might be on offer for you.”

“You can even just stop by for a chat.”

The mobile service will be at Catherine Street between 10am and 4pm.

Dying Matters Awareness Week is taking place between May 9 and 15.

This year and it is an opportunity to open up conversations about dying, death and bereavement.

The mobile information units travel around the UK visiting local communities, providing cancer information and support on the ground.

Last year they helped 74,000 people in 565 locations across the UK.

Information will also be available for those who have been bereaved.

Macmillan has recently produced a new bereavement booklet, providing practical and emotional support after someone dies – these will be available on board, or you can download it for free at https://be.macmillan.org.uk/be/p-22997-after-someone-dies-coping-with-bereavement.aspx If you are unable to visit the unit but have questions about cancer, visit www.macmillan.org.uk or call Macmillan free on 0808 808 00 00 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm).
