A 73-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering the effects of smoke after a chip pan fire at his Birkenhead home.
Two fire engines attended the incident on Townsend Street just before 11pm on Friday.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a CO2 extinguisher to put out the flames and then ventilated the property.
They administered oxygen to the occupant who suffered smoke inhalation.
He was assessed at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for further checks.
Firefighters remained at the scene for around 50 minutes.
