IT caused quite a stir when a Hollywood A-lister was spotted filming in Wirral.

But now you can see the results as Hugh Grant's latest movie Florence Foster Jenkins opens in cinemas on Friday.

The Notting Hill star was on set in New Brighton in June last year as filming took place for one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Scenes for Stephen Frears’ latest biopic 'Florence Foster Jenkins' were also shot in Hoylake and Liverpool city centre last summer with a number of streets transformed into 1940s New York for the movie.

The film follows the story of Florence Foster Jenkins - a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer despite having a terrible singing voice.

Hugh was seen filming scenes in a 1940s Ford convertible with Rebecca Ferguson, who starred in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep stars as Foster Jenkins, while Hugh plays her supportive husband and manager St Clair Bayfield in the comedy.

As filming took place close to New Brighton's golf course, people gathered on the sand dunes curious to see what was happening as Hugh was driven past by with Rebecca at the wheel.

Written by Nicholas Martin, Florence Foster Jenkins also stars The Big Bang Theory’s Simon Helberg and Nina Arianda.

Previews for the film took place earlier this week ahead of a general release date on Friday.
