TRANMERE Rovers' manager Gary Brabin has continued his preparation for next season by signing striker Andy Cook on a two-year contract.

The 25-year-old striker has been highly sought after by a number of clubs in the Football League after scoring 24 goals last season in the National League for Barrow, making him the third leading goalscorer in the division.

Cook signed for the Cumbrians in 2014 and helped them to promotion from the Conference North in his first season at the club, scoring 23 goals, and continued his goalscoring exploits in the National League last term.

In his two-year spell at Barrow, he was a highly popular figure amongst the Bluebirds supporters and picked up a host of Player of the Season awards.

He began his career coming through the youth ranks at Carlisle United before signing professional terms at Brunton Park.

After successful loan spells at Barrow, he made a permanent move to the club in January 2011.

Between the two spells at Barrow, Cook spent two seasons with Grimsby Town, scoring in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in 2013 and helping the Mariners to the play-offs in both seasons he was at the club.

His contract with Rovers is subject to a medical.

Gary Brabin said: "I am delighted to be able to bring Andy Cook to the Club.

“He is a hard-working player who has consistently been scoring 20+ goals per season, which made him one of my top priority targets.

"We know that we need to improve our performance in front of goal, and I am sure that Andy will play a big role in helping us to achieve that."
