TWO women were taken to hospital following a two car crash in Heswall yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Brimstage Road just before 2pm where one of the women became trapped in her Suzuki car.

Crews used hydraulic cutting gear to remove the roof off the vehicle and used specialist equipment to push the dashboard back to create more space in the vehicle.

Firefighters then brought a woman, aged around 60 years of age, from the car to safety.

She was assessed at the scene by paramedics and taken to Royal Liverpool University Hospital for further checks.

A female passenger from the same vehicle, aged around 45 years of age, had made her own way out of the vehicle prior to the arrival of firefighters.

She was taken by ambulance to Arrowe Park Hospital for further checks.

A 27-year-old woman and an eight-year-old boy had made their own way out of the second vehicle believed to be a fiesta, prior to the arrival of firefighters.

Two fire engines and the Search and Rescue Team attended the scene.

Crews gave first aid to the woman and boy while awaiting paramedics.

The woman was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for further checks but the boy did not require further treatment.

Merseyside Police attended the incident and temporarily closed Brimstage Road in both directions.

Firefighters remained at the scene for around an hour and 20 minutes.
