MOTOR enthusiasts were welcomed to Wirral this weekend for the annual Austin Counties Car Club meeting.

Members of the club brought their meeting to the North for the first time, as they usually pick the South or the Midlands to hold the event.

The meeting was held at the Gladstone Theatre’s car park and gave those who own an Austin car from the counties range, a chance to display their vehicles to a panel of judges.

Club member, Pamela Holstene said: “It was great to see the meeting visit Wirral, we spent the weekend showing the borough off to everyone.

“We had a lot of positive feedback about how beautiful Wirral is, as most people expected it to be mainly industrial works.”

More than 60 members spent the weekend in Wirral, sightseeing and visiting attractions such as the ferry and the tram museum, before the judging commenced on Sunday.

“My husband has owned his car for nearly 40 years, we both started going to car shows after we married- we love seeing the old Austin cars.

“The weekend was a great success with a variety of cars on display.” Pamela added.

“There were many categories which were being judged and each winner took home a trophy.”

The categories included the best preserved car and the car the judges would most like to take home.

Guests were also treated to a 1940’s ambulance which featured in the film 'The Quatermass Xperiment, as Chairman of the club Chris Tallents brought it to the meeting.
