A MAJOR fire broke out near a car garage in Birkenhead this afternoon.
Firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue were called to Price Street at around 11am today.

Seven fire engines attended along with officers from Merseyside police.
Crews are used ground monitors, main jets and main branches to tackle the fire inside the two storey building.

Merseyside police orignally placed a 100m cordon around the area, however Wirral Council confirmed via their twitter account the cordon has now been removed.
The road closures around Price Street, Birkenhead have now been lifted.

The cordon in place following a fire on Price Street, Birkenhead has been reduced to include Price Street from Duke Street to Old Bidston Road only.

All other roads have re-opened.
Some properties within the cordon have been evacuated as a precaution and it is not known yet whether people are allowed back inside.
