THE trial of a Merseyrail train guard accused of endangering railway passengers in Wirral has been postponed.

Martin Zee was due to stand trial on Monday at Liverpool Crown Court but an application to put it back to a later date was today granted.

Zee, 32, of Coronation Road, Runcorn, has pleaded not guilty to endangering railway passengers by wilful omission or neglect on July 8 last year.

The charge follows an 88-year-old woman suffering four broken ribs and a laceration to her head after losing her balance while trying to board a train at Hamilton Square in Birkenhead, falling between the carriage and platform edge.

The trial, due to last three days, is now scheduled to begin on March 6 next year.
