A MAN and woman have been arrested following an incident which has left a woman in a critical but stable condition.

The 36-year-old woman is believed to have been found injured at the bottom of a flight of stairs at a house on Poulton Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Officers from Merseyside police are currently investigating the incident to establish the full circumstances and understand how she came to be there (picture below).

Patrols were driving down Poulton Road just after 5am when a member of the public flagged them down to report that a woman had been injured.

The scene has been examined by crime scene investigators and house to house inquiries carried out. CCTV from the local area is also being examined.

A 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old, both from the Wallasey area have been arrested and remain in police custody for questioning.

Officers are particularly keen to trace the member of the public who flagged the initial patrol car down, as they may be able to assist with the investigation.
