KIND-HEARTED Wirral shop staff had heads shaved and legs waxed during a fundraising day in aid of MacMillan cancer research.

The event at Tesco Express in Poulton Road, Wallasey, was organised by shop assistant Laura Thomson and took place on Wednesday.

Also taking part were colleagues Robert Thompson and Scott Lindley, who had their legs waxed, and Tom Howells, who had his head shaved.

It raised £1,500 and money is still coming in.

Laura (pictured, below, before her head was shaved), will donate the hair to the Princess Trust - which provides real hair wigs to boys and girls that have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

She told the Globe: "I was inspired to do this as I was fed up of washing my hair and think MacMillan is doing a great job.

"I would like to thank everyone for their support and donations.”

Praising staff, Gary Grady, the store's community champion and team leader said: "It's already a great honour to support the local community and we encourage our staff to help in varies of ways including donating our free time and goods through Tesco’s generous community card budget.

"Not only that, the staff at our store also raise funds in their own ways to boost what we can offer too.

"When Laura approached me with the idea to support MacMillian in 'Brave the Shave' with the help of our store, we gave her our full support by giving her the ingredients for her bake sale free of charge and allocating collection boxes around our store.

"We also gave her the full support of our team here.

Gary (pictured, above, with Laura) continued: "Since April last year we have supported and helped over 30 different organisations / non-profit charities and small group fund raisers in the area from our store.

"I'm very proud of our staff here and our core purpose as front line employees at this store is customer service and doing what we can for our local community.

"I would like to thank the local community for the fabulous donations and support."
