A WIRRAL teenager has been banned from attending football matches for five years.

Nathaniel Hannon, of Raeburn Avenue, Eastham, was found guilty of fighting close to Tranmere Rovers’ stadium following the FA Cup tie against Lincoln City last year.

A group of fans were caught fighting with the opposition supporters after the game by police officers behind the Halfway House pub.

Hannon was found guilty of the offence following trial at Wirral magistrates’ court earlier this month. He was also given a three-year conditional discharge fined £665.

A second man was found not guilty. Chief inspector Paul Sutcliffe said: “I want to make it clear Merseyside Police takes a zero tolerance approach when it comes to tackling football violence and we will do everything within our powers to bring the people responsible for behaviour such as this to justice.

“We will also continue to work with our partners at Tranmere Rovers to ensure football matches remain an event for everyone to enjoy and members of the public do not have to witness acts of violence involving football fans on the streets of Merseyside.”
