BUILDING work on a new church in Heswall is starting to take shape.

The church building, based on Telegraph Road in Heswall, is set to open in summer this year.

The Lighthouse Church will replace the old Church of Good Shepherd and the Parish Hall which were both deemed “beyond economic repair” last year.

Architects, Shedkm, who is leading the renovation project shared updates from the site on Twitter.

Posting on their account they said: “The lighthouse church at Heswall, Wirral is taking shape.

“Our contemporary building will provide an outward-focused community space for outreach services and events, with a worship room reached through a welcoming reception behind the glazed principal high street elevation.”

The new building will be a bright, light building with a glass frontage that is designed to serve and enrich the community of Heswall.

Inside the new space, there will be facilities available including a sports hall, meeting rooms, a youth hub, and a place to meet and make friends.

Over £2million has been raised so far through the people of Heswall and the final cost of the build will be £2.4million.

A spokesperson from the church said: “We hope that by rebuilding our community in the middle of Heswall, this will benefit everyone.

“Following lockdown, we want to rebuild community, to care for one another, and to meet the spiritual needs of people as well as their wellbeing.”
