A WIRRAL mum has started a new business to support women on their journey through motherhood.
Kate Leonard from Bromborough, who works as a holistic therapist and hypnobirthing practitioner created Motherhub after giving birth to her daughter, Maeve.
The 26-year-old said she found everything to be “baby-centric” and struggled to find classes catered towards mums in her local area after she give birth in August 2021.
Kate told the Globe: “While I was pregnant, I would travel to Liverpool and different parts of Merseyside to do courses like yoga, hypnotherapy, reflexology, and pregnancy massage.
“Every time I was wanting to do something I was really struggling to find a place that did it in Wirral.”
Thinking that other women may be struggling in the same way, Kate came up with the idea for Motherhub.
She said: “I texted my sister straight away and said I’m going to open what I described as a pregnancy salon, and I am going to offer local mother’s all these treatments and create a space for them.
“Once Maeve was born, I found everything was catered towards the baby from baby sensory to baby music classes.
“There’s a saying that once a baby is born a mother is born and I used to think it was really cringy but it’s so true you’re like a totally different person after giving birth. There’s nowhere that is a safe holding space to support that transition into becoming this new person.”
Motherhub, based in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, opened on November 28 this year and offers mothers the chance to take part in baby yoga, psychologist's mental health for mums and relationship workshops, baby massages, mummy MOT, mindfulness courses, womb to-wellness courses, women’s open circle, and meditation.
Kate said: “The main goal is to make sure it's focused on the mum.
“Motherhub supports women on their journey to motherhood, so it’s not focused on just pregnancy. It supports women through fertility, pregnancy, and into the fourth trimester.”
Speaking of starting her own business, Kate added: “It’s been a massive learning process. I’ve had people question if I should even be starting a business given the current climate, but I still think there are people who need this type of support.
“The reaction has been good so far. Obviously, it’s a difficult time of year with Christmas coming up but I’m so happy with how it’s going so far.”
