A BAND, with members from Wirral and Liverpool, have recently signed a record deal with a label from Jersey in the Channel Islands.

This is War is made up of Paul Carden (vocals), Jonny Roberts (electric guitar), both from Liverpool, Mike Mullard (electric guitar), from Pensby, Andy Williams (bass), from Bebington and Martyn Leah (drums), from Little Neston.

At the beginning of lockdown, Mike put up a Facebook post explaining that band manager, Stuart Robertson, who has been in music management for around 13 years, was forming a band from hand picked musicians.

The group was formed at the beginning of 2022 and they started making music instantly and performing live shows.

Speaking to the Globe, Martyn said: "We've just been making music non-stop. We independently released a song every month last year, 11 in total, and our EP is being released next month.

"There are quite strong characters in the band and we always have ideas. It's the first time I've been in a band where there has just been songwriting all the time.

"It just all happens so naturally."

Signed with a record label

The band had approached record labels in the past but had no success.

Jersey-based independent record label and event management company, Bubblebrain Records took an interest in the band and on Wednesday (March 8) the band signed a new record deal with the company.

Martyn added: "Things have now started happening. It's not just something that might not happen. I can now officially say I'm a professional musician in a signed band.

"We signed it and sent it off but when it officially came out on social media and people saw it, it started to feel real."

To the band's surprise, football legend Jamie Carragher tweeted about the good news.

Martyn added: "We didn't know he listened to us but the irony is two of the members are blues but we were all still happy!

"We've had our music played at half-time at Anfield before as well.

"We're all longing to hear that we're going on our first tour. That's the dream."

The band's brand new EP 'Rotten' will be released on April, 21.

"It's so humbling to see people listening to our music all over the world and know people actually like it," Martyn said.
