A LEASOWE hotel given a zero hygiene rating has achieved top marks on re-inspection.

The Leasowe Castle Hotel was given the score of zero following an inspection on December 22.

According to the Food Standards Agency website, "hygiene food handling", "management of food safety", and "cleanliness and condition of facilities and building" all needed 'urgent improvement'.

Following the zero rating, a spokesperson for the hotel said that the "team are committed to continuing to address the areas highlighted and all the requirements for this work has already started".

On Friday, March 10, the hotel was re-inspected and received a five-star rating, meaning their hygiene standards are very good.

'Let's celebrate the good news'

Hotel manager, Ash Juneja, said: "Wow, what a remarkable turnaround.

"The Leasowe Castle Hotel’s food safety hygiene rating of five was achieved. Let's celebrate the good news.

"There was massive support outdoing most of the party posters who jumped on the bandwagon to blab.

"So, come on down to the Castle to try our new menu, get into the bar and have a round of drinks. Keep a watch on social media for specials we will be doing to show off how good it really is.

"A big thank you to the new chef Gaz and the new kitchen team and all the staff. Great achievement and more good things to come.

"Thank you so much for the support of so many people who helped make this a success."
