A WOMAN who owns a business in New Brighton is hosting workshops to help others learn the art of "furniture restoration".

Lindsay Hudson is the owner of The Vintage Interior Fairy - a furniture restoration, antiques and coffee shop on Seabank Road.

After learning how to upcycle, she now hosts workshops to help others learn all about furniture restoration, as well as offering full restoration services and selling ‘saved’ furniture and antiques from her shop.

Lindsay is one of the only local stockists of ‘Frenchic’ — the specialist furniture paint that can turn unwanted scrap into amazing works of art.

The Vintage Interior Fairy offers fun workshops where people can bring an old piece of furniture and learn how to restore it for £65.

Lindsay’s workshops have become more and more popular, with many people turning to upcycling both as a hobby and as a primary or secondary business. She also offers a full restoration service, where she can restore an entire kitchen or a house exterior, for example, and save people thousands of pounds in the process.

She said: "My grandfather was an upholsterer and my father was into antiques so even as a child I was fascinated by how furniture and how it can be saved.

"I moved to London in my 20s and after restoring a Victorian bamboo shelf I found in a skip, I was officially hooked.

"I’ve lost count of how many pieces of furniture I’ve saved over the years but it’s so satisfying. It’s a fabulous hobby but you can both save money and make money by doing it, whilst also saving furniture from landfill."

The workshops

Lindsay’s furniture restoration masterclasses run on Sundays at Vale House in Vale Park, New Brighton.

Some have said it has changed their lives. Some have found a new hobby and passion, and some have found it great for their mental health.

Amanda said: "Spent a lovely couple of hours learning crackle and decoupage with like minded people. Very relaxed, informative and oddly therapeutic.

"Lindsay was so knowledgeable and lovely, will definitely be signing up to more classes in the near future."

The Vintage Interior Fairy is located at 124 Seabank Road, New Brighton, and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The shop offers coffee, antique furniture for sale, a restoration service and furniture restoration workshops on Sundays.
