WIRRAL members of the world's largest contemporary choir will perform in Liverpool as part of the Eurovision 2023 celebrations.

Rock Choir's performances are guaranteed "to bring fun, happiness and harmonious singing joy to the Eurovision party!"

Members officially launched Royal Albert Dock’s Eurovision celebrations, at the opening ceremony of the spectacular 'Floating Earth' art installation, which has been described as the "jewel" in the site's Eurovision calendar.

As part of the numerous other performances across the city, Rock Choir will be singing the Beatles track With A Little Help From My Friends, which will include a line of the hit song sung in Ukrainian.

This line has been taught to the Rock Choir Members by Ukrainian Rock Choir Leader Christina Dmytryk Clark, who has been instrumental in helping Ukrainian families find sponsors in the UK. Many of those families were placed with Rock Choir Members.

The performances will continue to raise funds for the Ukrainian appeal organised by the Disaster Emergency Committee.

A spokesperson for the choir, which has 33,000 members across the UK, said: "Since the war broke out in Feb 2022, the entire Rock Choir membership has been raising vital finds for the appeal and to date have now raised over £50,000.

"Our members have also hosted Ukrainian families in their homes, providing shelter, friendship and support and many of these families have since joined Rock Choir and now attend weekly rehearsals.

"They have experienced the joy of group singing, made lifelong friendships and have been welcomed with open arms.

"Ukrainian Rock Choir Member, Levgeniia Sadovenko, fled her home in Ukraine as soon as the war broke out, along with her six-year-old daughter.

"Back in her home country of Ukraine, Levgeniia was a physicist specialising in Astro physics. When she settled in Liverpool, she experienced a musical awakening after seeing the famous Beatles landmarks and she realised she must follow her dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter.

"She began to record her own songs a year ago and through her sponsors. she was introduced to Rock Choir. She is now a proud member of the West Kirby Rock Choir run by Rebecca Broadbere.

"Levgenija is so excited about all the performances across the city with Rock Choir and thrilled to have her beloved Ukraine in the city for Eurovision."
