A 15-YEAR-OLD who has cycled hundred of miles since she was six in memory of her baby sister has said her final bike ride will "go out with a bang".

Jess Weaver, from Neston, started cycling for Alder Hey after her baby sister, Georgie died from a rare condition at five-days-old.

The day before Georgie was born, Jess, who was six at the time, her dad and uncle, went to collect her new pink tricycle and on the day, she was born Jess went out on her tricycle for the first time up and down New Brighton Promenade.

When Georgie was born, she was transferred to Alder Hey and the family were told she had Tracheal Agenesis, a rare condition in which the windpipe fails to develop, and she died days later.

Jess' mum, Emma Weaver, said: “We were going to bed one night and Jess said ‘I’d like to raise some money for Georgie to take to the poorly children in heaven’ so I said ok.

“The idea was born then and so on the first anniversary of Georgie’s death Jess did her first ride which was 11 miles on her tricycle which had no gears or anything.”

Jess has continued to raise awareness of Georgie’s condition and has raised over £30,000 for Alder Hey over the years.

“When Covid hit and she could do an event as such she cycled every hour each day for her exercise hour”, Emma added.

“In the first lockdown, she completed 300 miles.”

For her next challenge, On Sunday, May 28, Jess will complete her final ride from West Kirby to Mickle Trafford and then back to Nets Cafe in Burton which will be 51 miles.

Emma said: “Jess is doing her GCSE’s next year, so she wanted to go out with a bang this year.

“She’s hoping people will give her a wave as she passes or may join in with her. She said this isn’t the end of her fundraising journey it’s just a new chapter.

“We’re just so proud of her and everything she has achieved. A lot of her money has gone towards the new bereavement centre at Alder Hey so we know she is helping other bereaved families like us which is great.”
