A THEATRE group based in Neston are preparing to perform their version of a "gripping tale of justice, portrayal and passion".

Neston Players has been bringing theatre to their town of Neston for over 70 years.

From Wednesday, May 17 to Saturday, May 20, they will be performing the landmark production of Agatha Christie's 'Witness for the Prosecution'.

Leonard Vole is accused of murdering a wealthy widow to inherit her money. His solicitor refers the case to the brilliant Barrister, Sir Wilfrid Robarts, to lead the defence.

The stakes are high with shocking witness testimony, impassioned outbursts from the dock and a young man's fight to prove his innocence.

'Playing Vole is a challenge'

Gavin Persand, who plays Leonard Vole, said: "I think Leonard is an extremely flawed character, who somehow manages to find himself in trouble. Sometimes it's his own doing, other times not.

"Playing Vole is a challenge. I have had to look into my own personality at times to bring out his flaws and strengths. Which is really scary but as an actor I relish it. I really hope the audience enjoys the performance and am looking forward to their reaction to the verdict."

Co Director and Production Manager, Sarah McGinty, said: "It was so important to us to be able to offer our audience as much of a courtroom experience as possible. When planning the staging, we really thought about the best way to offer the audience the most immersive experience we could, so they feel part of the courtroom.

"The cast are working brilliantly together and really bringing this courtroom drama to life."

Witness for the Prosecution will be performed at Neston Civic Hall. Doors open 6.45pm, and the production begins at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from www.nestonplayers.co.uk from just £9 or Shop 4 Neston on the Neston high street.
