A GROUP of six friends from Neston are taking on a huge challenge for an 11-year-old boy tragically diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Adam, from Heswall, was diagnosed on Thursday, December 1 2022 with a Craniopharyngioma which is a rare type of noncancerous (benign) brain tumor, following an emergency MRI.

He underwent two successful life-saving surgeries at Alderhey and thankfully Adam is now on the road to recovery.

Scott Hay, who is Adam's father, is a good friend to the group of six men who have decided to cycle 500 miles over five days, to raise money for Alder Hey.

Who is taking on the challenge?

Neil Gabriel (42), Barry Walker (45), Rodney Kelsey (49), Ian Cooke (49), Simon Bentley (55) and Gary Jones (47) will take on the 500-mile route across the scenic Welsh countryside.

The challenging route will take them through some of the most remote parts of Wales, including the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia National Park, and the Pembrokeshire Coast.

Speaking about Adam, Neil said: "Adam is a massive Liverpool fan and a very good footballer.

"Adam has been through so much at a young age, it's been a worrying time for his family, but thankfully due to the amazing care from Alder Hey, Adam is on the mend."

Neil, and the five other men, will set off on Friday, July 14.

"There is a mix of abilities within the group when it comes to cycling", Neil added.

"This is the biggest challenge I've taken on yet. Two out of the six are really comfortable with cycling but the rest of us have had to train really hard.

"We wanted to fundraise for Alder Hey because of all of the work they did for Adam but also all of the other kids they help too."

So far, the group has raised over £800. To donate, visit here.
