EX-England footballer David Platt paid a visit to a Wirral café last week.

On Thursday morning (June 29) the former footballer and coach called into Nightingales Café on Argyle Street for a bacon butty.

The 57-year-old played in the 1990 World Cup and scored a memorable goal against Belgium. He also played for Aston Villa and Arsenal in England and Sampdoria and Juventus in Italy.

Nightingales CIC, which is part of Wirral Ways, provides great food at affordable prices in a safe environment for all visitors. Wirral Ways provides free and confidential drug and alcohol services across the region.

David popped into what he thought was a regular café but soon found out about the work the café does for the community.

Speaking about the visit, a Nightingales Café staff member said: "Our staff were chatting with David as they took his order, he was interested in the work that both Nightingales and Wirral Ways do.

"David was really impressed by the work both organisations do and explained he had a lot of time for people in recovery. Our staff obviously got talking to David about football and the football sessions that we run in partnership with Tranmere Rovers.

"It was lovely for David to pop by and show such interest in our work. He is of course always welcome at Nightingales, alongside anyone else – a lot can happen over a coffee."
