PLANS have been lodged to build a mental health and wellbeing club for "young men dealing with mental health challenges" in Willaston.

The development, proposed by the company Raw 'N' Real, will aim to "enhance and foster mental health recovery through various amenities and facilities".

The scheme is centered around a fishing pond, outdoor open spaces, and the rural country setting within the greenbelt on the land adjacent to Hanns Hall Road.

In the planning application, which was submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council on October 13, it states: "The chosen site in Willaston is located within a tranquil rural landscape, harmoniously nestled within the greenbelt.

"This setting has been deliberately selected to create an environment conducive to healing and recovery.

"The presence of open spaces, natural elements, and the fishing pond provides a peaceful and calming atmosphere essential for mental health treatment.

"The therapeutic effects of fishing on mental health are well-documented. Engaging in fishing activities can contribute to stress reduction, increased relaxation, improved focus, and enhanced emotional well-being.

"The act of fishing promotes mindfulness, patience, and a connection to nature, all of which can be pivotal in aiding individuals dealing with mental health issues.

"The site gives the ideal opportunity to design a building capable of delivering experiences tailored around these benefits in an ideal location."

The proposed building design will feature one-to-one counselling rooms and therapy spaces, a classroom for group activities, a fitness and meditation studio, wet and dry changing area and a kitchen with a washroom.

The application continues: "The design of the building has been meticulously tailored to blend seamlessly with the rural landscape.

"The choice of materials, including vertical larch cladding and wooden framing details, reflects the natural aesthetic of the surroundings.

"The strategic placement of the building shields it from the view of neighbouring developments, prioritizing the privacy and comfort of users.

"A low pitched roof and horizontal proportions ensure the building is as least disruptive to its setting as possible.

"Proposed planting screens play a crucial role in creating a private and enclosed space for club members.

"These green screens enhance the sense of seclusion and provide a buffer from external distractions, further enhancing the therapeutic ambiance of the site."
