BARCLAYS has confirmed that one of their Wirral branches is closing next year.

The Liscard branch, in Liscard Village, will close on Thursday, March 28 2023, the bank has confirmed.

Barclays has said that the reason for the closure is due to "seeing many customers choosing to bank using our app, and Online or Telephone Banking" rather then visiting the branch.

They have also said that "90% of people who use our branch have also banked using the app, online and by phone in 2022" and "185 customers use this branch regularly as the only way to do their banking".

It continues: "We’ll be working with the local community to understand the impact of closing this branch.

"Once we’ve gathered feedback, we’ll publish the results in a booklet called ‘Branch closure feedback’, which you can get from your branch or online at home.barclays/ukbranchclosures".

The closest branch for Barclays customers after the closure will be located on Grange Road in Birkenhead or on Lord Street in Liverpool.

Residents have taken to social media following the announcement.

One person wrote: "I can’t believe it I’m shocked I’ve been with Barclays for 40 years so what am I supposed to do now? "

Another said: "Poor elderly people who rely on these branches what are they going to do."

A third wrote: "I actually can't remember the last time I ever used a physical bank. I do appreciate that for those people paid in cash it must be awkward though."
