THE Mayor of Ellesmere Port Councillor Gareth Gould will be switching on the Christmas lights in Ellesmere Port on Friday, December 1, from the Civic Square.

Chester’s Karamba Samba band will lead 100 local schoolchildren with their hand made lanterns for a parade around the town centre before the lights are switched on. Artist Russell Kirk will be bringing the giant Queen of Light puppet, the Stag, Unicorn, Jack Frost and Angel.

Activities are from 4pm until 6.15pm with free children's rides, a festive experience provided by Passion for Learning, food and drink plus of course Father Christmas supported by Ellesmere Port Round Table. Following the switch-on, Santa will be starting his streets visits.

Musical interludes will be provided by local man Jon Butler and Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School choir will be performing.

This year, the star decorating the Christmas tree has been produced by Our Lady Star of The Sea Primary School.

The Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Cllr Gareth Gould said: “Thanks to the generous support from Ellesmere Port councillors, our Charter Trustees. Much of this event being free will allow more Ellesmere Port residents to share in the festive experience of Christmas cheer.”
