A BIG crowd is expected at a "special" football match later this year in aid of the Elle Edwards Foundation.

North West Community Stars Football Club (NWCS), which was founded by Dan Ferguson, was set up last year and has raised thousands of pounds for various charities across the North West.

Now, the team, who are managed by former Aston Villa defender, Shaun Teale, have teamed up with Elle's dad, Tim Edwards, to host a charity football match in July.

Everyone connected to NWCS is volunteers and every penny raised goes to the charity they are playing for on the day.

On Sunday, July 7 at 2pm, NWCS and Elle's Army will come together at Marine AFC's football ground to raise money for the Elle Edwards Foundation.

They have been allocated 1,000 tickets for the special match and anticipate a sell-out crowd.

Elle, an innocent bystander, was shot in the head twice on Christmas Eve 2022, when Connor Chapman opened fire with a sub-machine gun outside the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey Village.

In a social media post, Dan wrote: "When I first contacted Tim regarding a potential match I wasn't sure what the response would be but Tim was delighted and here we stand today looking forward to what is going to be a very special day in memory of Elle".

Tickets for the match will go on sale on Friday, February 9 and prices will be released nearer the time.

The post continued: "All monies raised from this match will go to the Elle Edwards Foundation which Tim has set up and this will help so many people affected by gun crime and so much more.

"Tim says that because of Elle so many lives will be saved in the future and that is a great legacy. Elle Edwards's name will never be forgotten and will live on forever.

"North West Community Stars will do everything possible for Tim and his family and we hope Elle's Army will grow and grow with your help and support.

"On behalf of Tim and everyone here at NWCS we cannot thank you all enough.

"Together we can all make this a very special day in memory of a beautiful young girl".
