A “HUGE” free classical choir concert is coming to Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

Set to be one of the biggest choir concerts to be held in the city, award winning opera singer Abigail Harris is bringing her 160 strong choir to Liverpool for a very special performance.

Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral will play host to the stunning showcase that will feature a performance, from well-known opera greats such as Puccini and Verdi to rousing choruses from Les Misérables and Carousel.

The unique event from the Hertfordshire based group is part of a UK tour prior to their shows in Italy.

Abigail Harris graduated from the Royal Academy of Music. Having performed as a soprano soloist with various opera companies and in venues such as St Martin–in–the-fields, The Royal Albert Hall and The Wigmore Hall, she also appeared on Channel 4’s TV series Operatunity.

Abigail said: It’s a delight to be hosting this amazing free event at such a majestic cathedral in one of the biggest music cities on the planet.

“We have prepared a wonderfully varied programme, including female-only arrangements from ‘Viva Ladies Chorus.’ It excites me to be coming to this warm, receptive city for the Classical Chorus project and we’re looking forward to blowing the audience away.

“The Classical Chorus concerts are always very special and the performances give people goosebumps. I’m looking forward to giving the people of Liverpool an evening to remember. With so many voices coming together to recreate nostalgic songs, it will be a wonderful experience, and it’s free.”

Classical Chorus is a non-auditioned choir based in St. Albans Hertfordshire, exploring singing technique, performance skills, ear training and score reading in an encouraging atmosphere. Performance and social opportunities include charity concerts, European tours and theatre trips.

Abigail said: “It’s a pleasure and honour to bring people together and empower them through the art of classical singing.

“There have been so many memories over the years such as hosting a concert at Shendish Manor with world renowned operatic tenor, Alexander James Edwards, where we performed Nessun Dorma. It’s also wonderful to give people the gift of music for free, as we’re doing with this show.”

The concert is coming to Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral on Saturday, April 6 2024 at 7.30pm.
