A “HUGE” event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Ferry Cross The Mersey is coming to Merseyside.

The event will take place at The Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool on Sunday, May 26 and will be hosted by Billy Butler.

The night will feature all the biggest hits from Gerry And The Pacemakers and classics from the Merseybeat era.

At 1pm there’s be a special screening of the Ferry Cross The Mersey movie, followed by entertainment from The Cavern Club’s The Shakers, Neil Ainsby and Tony Skeggs from 3pm.

Expect an afternoon of nostalgia, as the charismatic Billy Butler and The Cavern Club’s finest take you on journey through the Merseybeat scene, 60 years after the recording of the iconic Ferry Cross The Mersey single on May 27 1964. A celebration of that huge hit and the legacy of Gerry And The Pacemakers.

Beat group, The Shakers will be joined by top Gerry Marsden tribute Neil Ainsby and supported by Tony Skeggs, also a Cavern Club regular who spent 20 years with 60s tribute band The Overtures.

Organiser Tony Cook from Tram Productions said: “I’m delighted to be putting on this historic showcase in such a majestic setting. To recreate the timeless hits from Gerry And The Pacemakers and the Merseybeat era in celebration of 60 years since the release of Ferry Cross The Mersey is an honour and it’s going to be a very special afternoon at The Adelphi indeed.”

Tram Productions have partnered with Mersey Ferries to host this commemorative showcase, following their debut sell-out Wack Pack event featuring Ricky Tomlinson, Asa Murphy, Joe Speare and Steve Charles.

Tony added: The reception for our first Wack Pack event at The Adelphi was incredible — we sold out well in advance. The feedback has been amazing and I think people appreciate the afternoon format in a classy venue. We have some massive events planned and talks are underway for another Live Aid Liverpool festival next year so watch this space for some huge announcements!”
