EMERGENCY works that led to the closure of a section of the M53 on Sunday morning were completed ahead of schedule.
Drivers were advised that the M53 southbound would be closed while work was carried out to repair a damaged manhole.
The manhole was discovered on Saturday night during planned overnight roadworks to resurface the hard shoulder.
National Highways thanked road users for their patience while the repairs were carried out between junction 9, Ellesmere Port, and junction 11, Stoak.
