A WIRRAL community hub's work in the local area has been recognised with an award and funding boost.

The Voice of Egremont Community HQ, which is supported by housing association Magenta Living, supports local residents with a social supermarket, community meals, family support and training, employment and financial advice.

The project, backed by Magenta Living and Travis Perkins Managed Services, was nominated for a 'Travis Perkins – We Care' award.

Magenta Living and Travis Perkins Managed Services work in collaboration to provide funding to local communities as part of their social value commitment contract and were responsible for awarding the funds and the win.

It means the Voice of Egremont will receive a financial boost of £5,000 which it will use to bolster the project.

The project volunteers, led by Irene Oswald and Maria Kershaw, work tirelessly and give up their time to support their local community.

It is located in an area that doesn’t have a community centre and works with a variety of community and statutory partners to deliver a regular timetable of events, services and activities for residents in the local area.

Jamie Martin, head of community regeneration at Magenta Living, said: "We strategically seek out partnerships which create social value and engage Magenta customers within the neighbourhoods where we operate.

"We have used the Travis Perkins Managed Services Legacy Fund to enable local volunteers and enterprises to develop creative and engaging solutions to issues within their neighbourhoods.

"The collaboration works fantastically well, channelling funding to support the development of a range of ground-up community solutions and mutual support.

"The Voice of Egremont Community Hub is a great example. Led by volunteers with the passion, drive and commitment to support their local community, the small grant provided from the Fund has assisted them to create a much-needed and vibrant hub at the heart of the community."

Gavin Paget, an account manager from Travis Perkins Managed Services, said: "The work that Magenta Living and The Voice of Egremont Community HQ are doing to help residents is invaluable.

"The funds will be used to help invest in the area and continue to engage with the community."
