The second annual Wirral Bookfest looks set to be a great success. The events program offers talks by Viking author Steve Harding, and murderous tales from authors Margaret Murphy and Martin Edwards.
Local history will be featured heavily, with Jim O’Neill’s talk about Wirral’s windmills, Jim Baxter’s illustrated talk about Birkenhead’s famous war poet Wilfred Owen. Maria Saunderson will be talking about her book and embroideries about the Mersey ferries, and Stephen McGreal will be delivering a tribute to the military dead interred at Flaybrick Cemetery.
Gavin Hunter will give an illustrated talk about Storeton Quarries, while John Saville will host a slideshow about old Wallasey and Michael Corfe will give a talk about Lord Birkenhead.
Family History
There will be two family history events, including a workshop. There will also be a creative writing workshop.
Poetry
Poetry events are well featured too, with an evening with Carol Ann Duffy (the current Poet Laureate), and performances by Greasby Poetry Group and the prestigious Dead Good Poets.
Local man Fran Sandham will be talking about his solo trek across Africa, and Birkenhead Film Society will be presenting The Boy in Striped Pyjamas.
Riverside Writers
Along with fellow members of Riverside Writers, I’ll be taking part in New Tales for Old Byways, when we’ll be sharing new fiction with a Wirral flavour. There'll be tales of horror, humour and beauty - sustained by cheese and wine!
Free leaflets about the Bookfest can be picked up at any Wirral library.
