HESWALL under eights' mini red tennis squad emerged as worthy Cheshire Champions after a thrilling final against Knutsford on Sunday.

Proud parents thought the matches were as exciting as the Open Golf which was happening at the same time.

The children all displayed some magnificent skills with big serves, great volleys and ground strokes that made you forget that they are only under eight-year-old.

The children were all out to win.

If spectators were in any doubt before, the sheer determination was etched on their faces during some very long rallies.

A wonderful morning's tennis was enjoyed by both children and parents.

The final result saw Heswall 22–10 winners over Knutsford.

The budding tennis stars were Alfie King, Owen James, Chris Clark and Ollie Barton and were ably managed by Viv and Al King and coached by Sue Davis.

The team will receive their official winners medals from Cheshire County Lawn Tennis Association in September but immediately after the match were presented with individual players mugs by presidents of Heswall LTC, Roger Hughes and Sylvia Reed.

Regular mini red sessions are held at Heswall Tennis Club.
