SOUTH Liverpool are now the only unbeaten side in the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division One.

Following a 5-1 mid-week victory at Ashville, South assumed pole position, and deprived previous leaders Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves of their unbeaten record, after Kevin Martin bagged the game's only goal in Saturday's match of the day at Jericho Lane.

A Dave Bowe penalty was scant reward West Kirby, who capitulated 2-1 to reigning champions Maghull.

Colin McDonald and Danny Dillon obliged for the visitors, who climbed to third place.

Helsby made the most of their chances against Mallaby and posted a 5-2 result, thanks to efforts from Billy Webb (2), Dan Cummins, Tom Ward and Steve Woodward. John Hedges and Connor Swaile obliged for the visitors.

Hale's 2-0 eclipse of Blacon YC was confirmed by a goal apiece from Phil Doran and Wayne Smith.

In Division Two, Heswall's bid for a swift return to the top flight was bolstered, after the second placed club overcame Mossley Hill Ath. 2-1.

Fourth-placed Vauxhall Motors Reserves had Danny Norris (2), Danny Ferrell and Lloyd Parnell on target, in the 4-0 rout of Marshalls, while Maghull's second string were indebted to efforts from Adam Peterson (2) and Will McGee, for Saturday's 3-1 decision over West Kirby Res.

Elsewhere, the points were shared, after an efforts from Prescot Cables Res.' Steve Mine was negated by an equaliser from Richmond MAGS' Ally Birmingham.

Division Three leaders, South Liverpool Reserves, stayed six points in credit at the top after they won 3-1 at Belfry with goals from Chris Brammall, Neil Roach and Neil Hooson. Mike Ordish netted the hosts' consolation.

Second-placed Kirkby Town Railway profited, after a John Humphreys double anchored them to a 3-2 triumph over Heswall Res, while Ford Motors kept their promotion challenge ticking over, when Tony Wynne and Liam Summer made the score sheet, in a hard fought 2-1 win at Everton PLH.

A smart double from Rob McDowell inspired Capenhurst Villa Res, to a fine 3-1 win at Marshall Res, and Joe Peacock followed suit, with a brace for Bootle Res., in their 3-2 victory over Upton AA Res.

With maximum spoils from their first three outings, South Liverpool Youth continued to call the shots in the race for the Youth Division's title.

On Saturday, Alex Walsh and Alex Griffiths found the net as South won 2-0 at Maghull Youth.

Nearest rivals, Chester Nomads Youth savoured at 3-0 result at Custys, with Tim Ashbrook, Scott Evans and Tom Noble on target. Josh Jessop was a three goal star for Litherland Remyca Youth who shone in his side's 8-0 blitz of Hale Colts.

Saturday's Cheshire FA Amateur Cup first round action, saw joy at last for Mersey Royal, who took the scalp of Bebington Athletic.

Cliff Davies scored both goals for the Royal, as the game finished 2-2 before Darryl Karissa's side went through on penalties.

Despite goals from Trevor Worsley and Gabby Sabo, extra time was Willaston's undoing after they went down 3-2 to replies from Chester Nomads' Kevin Lloyd, John Cadwallader and Elliot Gorst.
