THE rain came a little earlier than expected on Sunday morning and made conditions in Birkenhead Park rather unpleasant.

But this did not deter Tixall's Jamie Fitzpatrick and he took his second win of this series of the Winter Flyers beating another Tixall player, last week's winner, Matt Gilmore, in the final.

Fitzpatrick had earlier beaten the Liverpool player Tommy Lowndes before proving to be a little too good for John Jones of Mold in the quarter finals.

Port Sunlight Village and Works Nick Woodward had shown a welcome return to form in reaching the semi finals but the combination of the rain and Fitzpatrick's relentless accuracy was just too much for him.

In the quarter finals the in form Gilmore had come through against another previous winner, the Lever Club's Colin Portis and he then proved to be too good for another player from the Tixall Club, Nigel Hughes who was making a relatively rare appearance in the Park.

Fitzpatrick was in inspired form in the final and despite Gilmore's best efforts he could not prevent his team mate from taking the first prize.

Next week the top 16 players will compete in the final tournament of this session of the Flyers.
