WIRRAL secured their third consecutive win with a score line which was more convincing than the score suggests.

The away side decided to play with the wind in the first half and employed a kicking game which kept Lymm pinned back for long periods in the first half.

It was as early as the seventh minute when Wirral mounted their first attack which resulted in James Annetts scoring and converting from the touchline.

Lymm replied with a penalty by Cormac Nolan, soon cancelled out by an Annetts penalty. A Wirral kick through produced a mistake by the Lymm full back and Annetts was on hand to touch down, he again converted from wide out.

Lymm continued to press and were awarded with a try through winger, Andy Rowley to reduce the deficit to 8-17.

On the stroke of half-time, Wirral captain Craig Harvey ran through the Lymm defence to score under the posts, converted by Annetts to give Wirral a lead of 8-24 at half time.

With the wind advantage in the second half, Lymm played a more fluent game and in the space of 10 minutes had reduced the arrears through two unconverted tries through prop Widdrington and captain, Williamson.

Wirral reverted to their basic game, put pressure on Lymm and were rewarded with a fine individual try from Craig Harvey, duly converted by Annetts, to give Wirral a commanding 18-31 lead. This lead should have been increased when an Ali Baker try was disallowed.

The last 15 minutes, including nine minutes of injury time, saw continuous pressure from Lymm which resulted in the Lymm prop Widdrington crashing over under the posts; Nolan converted to secure a losing bonus point for Lymm.

Lymm 25 - Wirral 31 at full-time.

This impressive away win moves Wirral one place closer to mid-league and only one point behind Lymm.
