2013 winners West Kirby secured their passage to the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup semi-finals, after they dashed the dreams of Carlsberg Division One rivals Newton.

Efforts from Ross McDowell and Dave Moran outweighed a goal from Joel Douglas, as Newton sought closure, before a late equaliser from Ian Brunt forced extra time.

The score line remained unaffected following the extra period, and it was Kirby who settled the issue, 6-5 on penalties.

On the domestic scene, Ashville's bid to escape relegation from Division One was significantly improved, after they pulled off an excellent 2-1 result at consistent performers, Capenhurst Villa.

Danny Wainwright obliged for the hosts but replies from Tom Harris and Peter Navaro were enough, as the Wallasey outfit recorded their fourth win of the season and eased their way from bottom spot.

That dubious honour went to Chester battlers, Blacon YC, who were second best against Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves.

The Shipbuilders moved to within four points of current leaders, South Liverpool, following Saturday's 3-0 triumph, confirmed by a goal apiece from Tom Hartley, Ross Rule and Kevin Fitzsimmons.

Despite goals from Chris Melia and Nathan Mapletoft, Upton AA lost out 3-2, to sixth placed Mossley Hill Athletic. John Kelly, Neil McCarthy and Jamie Kelly netted for the winners.

Mallaby completed their first league double of the season, and at the same time, posted their first ever win at Hale.

A John Hedges double was supplemented by a stunning individual effort from Gerard Mullen, as the Claughton Villagers won 3-1. Wayne Smith scored Jim Doran's side's consolation.

Elsewhere, Dale Harris struck twice, and was joined on the score sheet by Ed Moss, as Chester Nomads beat Vauxhall Motors 3-0.

Division Two leaders, Rainhill Town, overcame Marshalls 3-2, with efforts from Colin Lynch (2) and Ryan Burke, and that win kept them eleven points in credit at the top.

Unbeaten nearest rivals, Heswall, racked up another three points, after goals from Kevin Walker, Andy Kingham and Ben Kearney hepled them to a 3-0 win at West Kirby Reserves, while a hat-trick from the impressive Paul Gouthwaite anchored Richmond MAGS to a 5-3 decision over Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves.

Hale Res savoured a fine win at Vauxhall Motors Res. after Jack Walker (2) and Graeme Walsh netted in a hard earned 3-2 triumph, and a double from Kevin Dickinson was the catalyst for Gateacre Village's 6-3 eclipse of Bebington Athletic.

Anthony Anglesey was another two goal star who shone for Ashville Res. in their 2-2 stalemate with Prescot Cables Res, who hit back via Sam Griffin and Lee Madden.

In Division Three, promotion outsiders Neston Niomads left themselves with a mountain to climb after they finished 3-3 with Ford Motors.

Brothers Richie (2) and Robbie Foulkes found the net for the hosts with Hughie Newnes, Paul Jones and Anthony Lyons in reply for Motors.

Luke Atkinson and John Prescott bagged the goals as Bootle Reserves won 2-1 at Heswall Res. while second placed South Liverpool Res. failed to capitalise, after they went down 3-2 to goals from FC St.Helens' Joel Donaghue, Callum Laird and Liam Houghton.

A Sstephen Jones effort was scant reward for Mersy Royal who suffered 2-1 at Everton PLH. Jason Tierney and Paul Brown netted for the winners.

Current leaders, Kirkby Town Railway, were grateful for a single goal from Dean Kenny which put paid to Chester Nomads Res and opend up a six point lead at the top.

Respective marksmen in Belfry's 1-1 nail biter with Upton AA Res. were Jamie Ranford and Dale Higham.

Dave Mee and Alex Griffiths scored the goals as South Liverpool Youth beat Belfry Youth in Saturday's sole Youth Division fixture.
