AFTER the difficult conditions last week this Sunday's Flyers Tournament was played in warm sunshine on greens which were running really well.

At the end of a very enjoyable morning's play it was Hawksbury's Paul Roberts over from North Wales who took the first prize, beating Tixall's Mick Andrews in an excellent final.

From the outset Roberts was clearly intent on putting his earlier poor run of form behind him.

He played very well against West Kirby's Bill Atkinson in his quarter-final game and he then followed this up with an equally emphatic performance in the semis when he beat Upton Victory Hall's Tony Ratcliffe.

Meanwhile Andrews, determined not to go out in the quarter finals for a second week, proved to be too good for the very consistent Joe Edwards and then he had a tremendous win in his semi-final match, coming from behind to get the better of his team mate at Tixall's Matt Gilmore.

Both players were in top form in the final but it was Roberts who prevailed in the battle of the left handers and he won an epic contest.

The local bowlers are going to have to "try a little harder" as this was the second week running that a 'visitor' has won the top prize.
