CANADIAN striker Iain Hume returned to Tranmere Rovers on a six-month contract subject to international clearance.

The 31-year-old had opportunities to join clubs in League One but chose to return to Prenton Park following a successful spell in the Indian Super League where he was voted player of the league after helping Kerala Blasters reach the final.

He started his professional career at Prenton Park after being spotted playing for a Canadian touring side at the age of 15.

He spent seven seasons at Tranmere, scoring 37 goals in 177 appearances, before moving to Leicester City for £500,000.

After three years at Leicester he signed for Barnsley for a fee of £1.2m.

He joined Preston North End in 2010 and had loan spells in each of the last two seasons at Doncaster Rovers and Fleetwood Town, helping both clubs gain promotion.

He signed for Kerala Blasters in the inaugural Indian Super League in August and scored five times and provided three assists in 16 appearances.

The Canadian international has 39 caps for his country.

Rovers' manager Micky Adams said: "I'm delighted Iain has agreed to joins us.

"He had a number of options with other clubs but his passion for Tranmere was clear to see when I met him.

"He can score goals, he can open up defences and create chances for others and he’s a handful for defenders.

"He'll increase the competition for places up front and add to our attacking options for the second half of the season."
