TRANMERE Rovers boss Micky Adams says his squad's relegation battle is far from over ahead of this weekend's crucial clash with Oxford United.

Rovers dropped to the bottom of the Football League - two points adrift of safety with three games remaining - after losing 1-0 last night at Mansfield on Tuesday night.

Tranmere face Oxford at Prenton Park on Saturday and Micky Adams is fully focused on the task ahead. Victory could lift Adams' side two places up the table.

Oxford are 16th place on the table with 52 points. They have an away record in the league of six wins, seven draws and eight defeats.

During a press conference at Prenton Park, Adams said his side will do everything in its powers to get three points on Saturday.

He said:"The players know the importance of the next three games, we've got to go for it.

"It's an important game this Saturday. We've got to focus on ourselves and get that elusive win on Saturday.

"We've tried to get the players focused on their game. We've tried not to create a crisis of confidence.

"If you look at the last three games, if the game was won on possession and chances created then we'd win them comfortably but at the end of the day, the game is about putting the ball in the back of the net and achieving three points. We've got to remain positive and keep going.

"My message to the fans is give the players the best opportunity to go and win the game. With the backing of the crowd, I'm sure we'll get a positive result."

Defender Danny Holmes echoed Adams' view that the fight is still on for Tranmere. He said: "Everybody has been positive and we've got to remain positive and we need people to be like that until the end of the season.

"I'm always happy when I'm playing, so if I can help us get out of the situation that we're in, which I think we can, I'll be over the moon.

"We've got to take the game to whoever we play and give everything that we've got.

"I can't believe how good the fans have been with us, they've been great. If they can get here in numbers again, they can give us the boost we need.

"It's not over, we could win on Saturday and be out of the bottom two."

Adams confirmed that defender Marcus Holness is ruled out of the game with a knee injury, although Rob Taylor is doubtful after suffering an injury which forced him to be substituted during Tuesday's game at Mansfield.

The remaining fixtures see them facing Plymouth away on April 25 with the final game of the season against promotion chasers Bury at Prenton Park.
